How to draw in 3D the easy way with 3D Doodle Boxes

August 30, 2013 by Douglas Bonneville

Update: 3D Doodle Boxes is now available in the Mac App Store. Free for a limited time! Try it today! 3d-doodle-boxes-logo-v02 3D Doodle Boxes will be available on the Mac App Store very soon. We’ve been working on this on and off for the last couple years as a labor of love. Now that it’s as fun and easy to use as we hoped, it’s ready for the world of doodlers to try it and have as much fun as we have had with it.

How to draw in 3D

It’s very simple: just point your cursor to a point in space and click. 3DDB inserts a block. Now, you can turn your drawing left, right, up, or down. You can zoom in and out. Changing colors is as easy as spray painting. Just pick the color tool, pick a color, and drag it where you want. You can also change the transparency just as easy.

It’s not a game, but it’s like Minecraft

We enjoy, as millions other do, the immersive world of Minecraft. However, we would wish sometimes to just have a super-simplified environment just to play with the blocks. Not run from things. Not try to survive. Not program. Not even have to walk around. Just doodle something! And so here is 3D Doodle Boxes to the rescue. It’s blocks, it’s doodling, it’s 3D. It’s 3D Doodle Boxes! You can play for a few minutes, save your work, and come back later. You can work on several different doodles by saving them and working on the ones you want, when you want. And when you are ready to show the world, simply make a screen capture.

A minute to learn yields hours and hours of fun

  • Simple controls (up, down, left, right, tilt up, tilt down, zoom)
  • Intuitive color picker
  • Auto-rotate
  • 3 Modes: Add boxes, Remove boxes, Color boxes
